Anti-ageing hacks you can start TODAY!

Ok, so the simple truth…. Ageing sucks.

I mean who enjoys waking up and finding another fine line or a new age spot?? I’m pretty certain I can guess your answer!

I know this is an inevitable process, however, if I can find ways to prolong the signs of ageing without having to inject my face or perform face yoga for 30 mins a day, count me in!

Follow these 6 simple anti-ageing hacks, which are so simple and SO effective!

# Anti-Ageing Hack 1: SPF – SPF – SPF – SPF

Blue skies and sunshine were some of the main reasons we have all moved to the UAE, as well as tax-free salaries (but that’s a different topic). We waved goodbye to grey skies and rainy days and said helloooo to becoming a bronzed Goddess or Adonis.

However, when it comes to our skin, the Sun is not our friend.

Studies suggest that 90% of skin ageing is a result of the Sun. Before you close the curtains, shut the blinds, or lock yourself in a dark room, all is not lost. Premature ageing caused by the Sun can be prevented by using proper sun protection.

Before you say, “yes but I use sunscreen” ask yourself these questions:

  1. Do you use SPF 30 or above?
  2. Is it UVA and UVB?
  3. Do you reapply?
  4. Do you wear it every day? Even if you are inside?

Time to make applying a good UV protection part of your morning routine.

# Anti-Ageing Hack 2: You are what you eat

More often than not when it comes to our skin we tend to heavily rely on what we put on it – or inject in it! Yet we easily look past all the natural foods that scientifically fight wrinkles, boost collagen, improve hydration and make us glow. And, they are a lot cheaper than the creams that promise us the world.

Here is a list of the top 12 foods that can keep you looking younger for longer:

  1. Kale
  2. Dark Chocolate
  3. Berries
  4. Spices
  5. Watermelon
  6. Walnuts
  7. Grapes
  8. Pomegranate
  9. Probiotics
  10. Coffee
  11. Bone Broth
  12. Salmon

How many are you going to add to your next week’s shopping list?

# Anti-Ageing Hack 3: Drink Up

When living in hotter climates, such as the UAE, it is even more important to track our water intake. On average it is suggested that we consume at least 2.5 litres of water per day to maintain sufficient hydration levels.

When we become dehydrated it can have a negative impact on our skin, contributing to:

  • Lack of elasticity
  • Dryness
  • Fine lines
  • Dullness
  • Under-eye bags

To ensure that you consume enough water throughout the day, follow these top tips:

  1. Go to bed with a full glass of water next to you so that it’s there when you first wake up. After a full night’s sleep, you need to hydrate.
  2. Try adding natural flavors to your water by adding lemons, cucumber, or even strawberries.
  3. Keep a reusable bottle with you throughout the day.
  4. Install a home water filter, so you never run out of clean, purified drinking water. No need to rely on your water delivery turning up on time.

# Anti-Ageing Hack 4: Beauty Sleep

Yep… Beauty sleep is not a myth!

Estee Lauder commissioned a study at University Hospitals (UH) Case Medical Center, where physician-scientists found that “sleep quality impacts skin function and ageing”. The study also suggested that “poor sleepers had increased signs of skin ageing and slower recovery from a variety of environmental stressors, such as disruption of the skin barrier or ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Poor sleepers also had worse assessment of their own skin and facial appearance.”

The National Sleep Foundation advises that healthy adults need between 7 – 9 hours of sleep per night. When we fall into a deep sleep our body goes into recovery mode and produces growth hormones, which in turn help create new cells. These new cells help heal our skin from the days’ damage.

So, are you going to start upping your beauty sleep?

#Anti-Ageing Hack 5: Protect your skin from bluelight

Did you know that the blue light from your phone, tablet, computer, and even TV can cause premature ageing, YES – you read that correctly!

Blue light alters the chemicals in our skin, which long term exposure can cause;

  • Pigmentation
  • Inflammation
  • Premature ageing

If you work long hours on a computer or are addicted to the gram,  the simplest solution is to purchase a blue-light blocking screen protector or blue-light blocking glasses. I can assure you I am wearing my blue-light blocking glasses as I am writing this!

Maybe take a moment to think twice before you take your next selfie!

# Anti-Ageing Hack 6: Use a Shower filter

So, you are eating all the right foods, drinking plenty of water, topping up your beauty sleep, wearing your SPF, and, protecting yourself from blue-light. But there is one more thing that you may not have thought about…

Your shower water.

Don’t let all your hard work literally wash down the drain.

Unfortunately, the water in the UAE contains high levels of chlorine and other contaminants. Although chlorine is a necessary process as it eliminates any harmful bacteria, however, chlorine is NOT great for our skin!

Continuous exposure to chlorine over several consecutive years can cause the following side effects!

  • Dryness
  • Rashes
  • Irritation
  • Itchiness
  • PREMATURE AGeING!

The simplest solution is to install a water filter such as the 11-stage Tappie Shower Filter which removes up to 100% of chlorine, bacteria, heavy metals, and all the other nasties that are in your shower water.

Follow these simple anti-ageing hacks to get your glow back! Be sure to thank me a few months from now.
